Batman fans rejoice! Gamescom dropped a first look at the upcoming Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The game is set to come out in 2026, and it’s looking like a dream come true for Batfanatics.
The trailer premiered at Gamescom, is a love letter to the Cape Crusader. Veteran fans can easily spot references to the multiple versions of Batman that have existed in film, with iconic villains like Heath Ledger’s Joker or Tom Hardy’s Bane as well as Batmobile’s from the Nolan and Matt Reeves’ movies.
As for the combat, it’s heavily inspired by the Rocksteady Arkham franchise. Despite being a Lego game, the developers want players to face a tougher challenge, as Legacy of the Dark Knight will feature selectable difficulties.
Another major selling point for Lego Batman is that players will be able to control multiple characters beyond Batman, including Jim Gordon, Batgirl, and Robin (it remains unclear which one). Furthermore, Gotham City has been described as an open playground, in which players can build their own fun while exploring it, grappling through buildings, or by driving their Batmobile of choice.
